Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series
Field is growing for Rd5 of the series at Albany
An impressive list of drivers is being formed for round five of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series, to be hosted by the Albany Speedway Club, on Saturday, December 13.
Attwell Park is the first of a handful of country rounds to be featured in the 2025-26 series championship that is mainly contested at the Perth Motorplex.
This season the series has expanded to take in Albany, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton, taking the high-profile series to the regions.
While the final nomination list is still being finalised, many of the drivers are excited about heading to the Great Southern in the last race before the Christmas period.
That includes Michael Keen, the driver of the Cowara Motorsport W41.
An accomplished driver in other sprintcar divisions, Keen stepped up to the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series last season, and the Rookie of the Year finished 10th overall.
He hopes his experience of racing at country tracks will hold him in good stead for the upcoming round, backed by Albany World of Cars.
And when asked which of the country tracks is his favourite, the response was quick.
“Albany.”
“We have got family down there and it’s always nice to go down to Albany to see the family,” Keen said.
“The track has always been really good.”
He recalled a 360 Power Series round at Albany where he “had one of the best pole shootouts with my brother (Daniel)”.
“And we won the state title there in Limiteds last year, so that’s definitely one I am looking forward to getting to.”
Talented WA sprintcar and speedcar driver Kaiden Manders is also pumped.
“I look forward to it,” the driver of the Dan Golding Racing W71 said.
“It’s a new challenge, it's something that not a lot of drivers have got to experience yet,” he said, referencing the country tracks.
“I know Albany is going to be really cool to get sprintcars back there.
“It's going to be cool to go to these country tracks and get racing on a little bullring and kinda see where we all stack up.”
Myles Bolger, driver of the Tralee Motorsport W13, who owns a major hay processing business, is equally excited.
“We are obviously a country-based business…going to these country tracks will be awesome for us,” Bolger said.
“We have clientele in most of these country towns we go to and it will be good to get out of the city and go back into the country where we spend a lot of our time and be a part of it all.
“A few of our sponsors are pretty excited for it all and to see the car out on the country tracks.”
