Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series

Manders wins Asphalt Recyclers Australia Gold Cup

Kaiden Manders claimed the Asphalt Recyclers Australia Gold Cup at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night.

He won the 30-lap feature race, which was round 21 of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series, from Callum Williamson and Dayne Kingshott.

Manders started from p1 for the final after earlier in the show being the quickest in his qualifying group, taking a second in his heat race and winning the Revolution Racegear A Dash.

Sitting behind Williamson for the first 15 laps, he showed his hand when running a lower line but was unable to make the first move stick.

Not long afterwards, as the leaders came up to lap a car, Manders was able to handle traffic better and took the lead and then set the pace on the run to the checkers in the Dan Golding Racing W71.

Williamson started the show by being quickest in the third qualifying session, when racing to a win from p4 in his heat race and winning the Revolution Racegear B Dash.

This was his second outing in the Diamond Bay Motorsport W26, backing up the second he also claimed at the Motorplex a week earlier.

Kingshott started from p3 after being second quickest in his qualifying group, then finishing third in his heat race and second in the A Dash.

He dropped back a couple of spots at one point before winning a great battle with Daniel Harding and taking third in the latter stages, banking more points in his series championship defence.

It took some time to get some momentum in the final, with Brooke Newson spinning first and then a caution as Brad Maiolo stopped with no rear push bar on the W77.

This was followed by a couple of other minor incidents before a red light stop with seven laps in the books after contact between Newson and Declan Minchin, with Newson enduring a bone-jarring crash.

Another incident took out Mikey Green and Jack Williamson before the race settled into a groove and Manders set sail for victory.

Harding, who started seventh, was fourth, ahead of Kris Coyle (who started from p4 and only lost ground in the latter stages to take fifth), James Inglis in sixth (after winning the BR Motorsports / King Racing Products Midpack and starting 13th in the final), Jye McKenzie in seventh (from p9), Jason Pryde in eighth (from p8), Cameron McKenzie in ninth (from p22) and Chad Pittard in 10th (from p21).

It was a great recovery for Cameron McKenzie who didn’t get a qualifying time in the W4, crashing into the fence in pits bend.

He then missed his heat race and raced through the midpack race to finish seventh.

After making up 13 spots, he was this round’s Kincrome Hard Charger, going with his Hoosier tyre win at the start of the night.

Last round winner AJ Nash was 11th.

Jack Williamson set the pace at the start of the show with his 13.380-second lap being enough to set the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time.

Saturday night’s show was the first of the Maddington Toyota Triple Crown to round out the season.

The highest driver in points from the three final shows will receive a $5000 bonus, with second overall receiving $3000 and third overall $2000.

The penultimate round of the series will be held at Kalgoorlie Speedway next Saturday night, before the series Grand Final, back at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, March 28.
