The 25th season of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series (formerly known as the Car Craft and the AHG Sprintcar Series) is now in the record books.
The Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series actually dates back to the very first season of racing at the Kwinana Beach venue – when the Sprintcar Entrants Group was formed to foster the growth of sprintcar racing here in the west.
The first three rounds were actually staged at the Bunbury Speedway as the state-of-the-art Perth Motorplex complex was not completed until December 2000.
Jamie Maiolo won rounds one and three, with Ryan Farrell successful in the second event.
Opening night of the Perth Motorplex – on Saturday December 15, 2000 – saw South Australian Trevor Green drive the Kendrick Racing Team car to victory over Farrell and current Speedway manager Gavin Migro.
Jamie Maiolo would take out the inaugural series – the first of his record seven successes over the years – while younger brother Brad Maiolo has claimed two series crowns.
The other series champions are – Jason Kendrick (3), Cameron Gessner (2), Callum Williamson (2), Dayne Kingshott (2) with one win apiece to Pino Priolo, the late Michael Figliomeni, Dean Jacobs (USA), Ben Ellement, Luch Monte, Luke Dillon (SA) and James Inglis.
Over the past 25 seasons there have been a total of 416 rounds held.
The Perth Motorplex has staged 278 of them (66.8%).
Nine other tracks have also held rounds – Bunbury 103, Kalgoorlie 8, Collie 6, Albany 6, Manjimup 4, Ellenbrook 4, Northam 3, Esperance 2 and Margaret River 2.
